Body weight and body fat deposits are the results of your physical activity, your way of life, how, when and what you eat. Chinese population in the United States has higher rate of chronic diseases, overweight and obese individuals than Chinese population in China. Why? Chinese population in China use to have different eating habits.
Overweight and obesity rates in developed countries reached dangerous levels, during last 2-3 decades. Greater availability of food, especially high-calorie quick meals, high availability processed food, combined with advertising pressures that promote irregular eating habits, contributes significantly to the increase in overweight and obesity that we see in the USA and other parts of developed world.
Obesity is a chronic disease that is developed from the interaction of a gene and our environment. Obesity phenomenon in developed countries involves a combination of social, cultural, physiological, metabolic and genetic factors.
Genes can partially influence the development of overweight, but your weight is determined by your meals and physical activity. Excess calories consuming, lazy and physically inactive lifestyle, especially combination of these two things, through a long period of time, leads to excessive weight gain.
Meals. Fast food restaurants, food to go offers, street food stands with cheap meals, stuffed with calories, artificial flavors and colors, use to offer large selection of easy accessible highly caloric, unhealthy food. Huge quantities of this food per serving, high amount of energy per meal, is like magnet to modern people. They are too busy to eat at home, too busy to prepare their own meal. This is the food meant for people who have less time for exercise and work mostly office work.
Physical activity. Most people hardly has time to exercise. This is not their favorable activity. Exercise is effective in weight loss, but most people do not accept the advantage of preventive approach. Physical activity use to be excluded from people’s lifestyle in certain professions. Automation and technology is used to be connected with reduced physical activity and elevated consumption of excess calories.
Regardless of physical activity, genetic predisposition and food, your weight is determined by the energy balance. If you take more calories than you spend, you will gain weight. If you spend more calories than you take or exercise or have high physical activity, you will lose weight. If you take the same amount of calories that you spend, your weight does not change. This principle is called energy balance, the basic principle of weight control. The number of calories you need depends on several factors, including the fact whether you’re weight is normal, above or less than normal.
Slow and steady weight loss is the safest procedure that leads to long lasting results. You are likely to persist in the new dietary habits and physical activity for a long time if you accept a gradual change.
Though in the beginning, a lot of fat people do not want to accept the truth. But there comes the time when they can no longer hide from it.
If you are interested to lose weight (or fat), you have to identify why you are fat and then work to avoid all the identified reasons.
When you finally found you are fat, do you say:
1. Okay, I know am fat and there is nothing I can do about it.
2. I take the challenge, and I must do something about it.
